George suggested this a few years back when the handlers had a meeting at
the National, and most have lowered handling fees for puppies (when, in all
actuality they should be asking for hazardous duty pay <VBG>). I was dubious
that lowering the fees would increase puppy entries because IF price was the
objection, I didn't see where $15 -$20 would make the difference.

If it IS price that prevents someone from campaigning a puppy, most folks
will usually only make that mistake once ~ then look back and think, "well,
that
 was an expensive lesson!".

For me it wasn't price; with my first dog I was over the top at having
something to show, advertise, all of it. I saved all the ribbons (now, only
the
majors, if that!), saved catalogs, you name it. It wasn't until I was taken
to school by one of the "names" and made to feel foolish for showing a dog
that wasn't "ready" and had it pointed out in no uncertain terms that I was
holding points for others and that I was getting a dog (that I happened to
love)
beat, that the joy went out of showing a baby.

The irony is I now hear the same person whine when they can't find a major.
I'm sure they don't remember taking me to school, just as I'm sure I'm not
the only one who, thanks to their shared wisdom, has dogs doing other
things, waiting until they are "ready" who might have been entered. (Which I
happen
to enjoy Sheila and Janice! believe me, there is nothing like working a
youngster on a beautiful crisp fall day like today).
