I prefer to go back to the original standard and the people who were involved then. They did not give antidotes or examples but a real hard core mechanical explanation of why they believed what they believed. For the foot, I refer to Joe Schwabacher who gave a detailed explanation of how the foot relates to the ground. He said the pad is the landing mechanism, the toe is the pull/ push mechanism in relation to the ground. They land on their pad and once the toe comes into play it pulls and pushes the energy to propel the dog forward when in contact to the ground and each digit has its part to play in that. The problem with landing on the hock or close to, in my opinion, is that it takes longer to get to the effectiveness of the toe (what I have named toe thrust) to get to its most effective position. I have no intention of fighting about it,agree or disagree, that was the current wisdom of that day. I think it holds true today.
