Well in the last 14 years I have introduced 3 humans into out home of =
GSD's.
When my 14 yr old was born my GSD boy was 9 yo. And a rescue Springer
Spaniel that was 3. And by the time our 22month old was born we had 5 =
GSD's
in the house and 3 in and out's ( and people get rid of 1 when they have =
a
baby...ugggggh) I did the same with all of them as I did my old man 14 =
years
ago.
I have my husband bring them in the house in their car seats...... I =
greet
them and set the car seat on a sofa with hubby next to it. I then =
brought
them in one at a time and said to them,( all in a soothing calm voice, =
not
to make them even MORE excited than they already are to see MOM...)." =
Look
what WE have.... WE have a baby!!!!!! I tell them gentle and I let them
sniff til their hearts content while praising them for being gentle. If =
they
want to lick I let them as long as they don't just concentrate on the
mouth... Give a week or two...LOL I just remind them that this is OUR =
baby.
When ever I had a free hand while holding the babies it always went to =
which
ever 4 legged kid was there waiting.
I never did the smell objects, alough they did hear there fair share of
babies crying from Discovery Heath Channel. I still LOVE to watch the =
baby
shows, Special delivery and the others they have. That may be a good =
idea to
leave that channel on during the day if they are at work. My son who was =
8
when I got pregnant said to me one time ."no wonder you got pregnant =
Mom,
you love to watch baby shows"
I have always given the advice to NEVER shun the dogs from the babies. =
Even
when you have company... I find the dogs will go over and check out who =
has
the baby and then give the baby a gentle nudge or a tender little lick. =
I
tell my company that , that IS allowed, because that is their baby too. =
BTW
that usually grossed out my Mother in law horrible. LOL You are all one =
big
family. Plus the dog want to sniff and bond as well, better he does that
WITH your approval than to feel he has to sneak it and isn't supervised =
as
to HOW to .
I have NEVER had anyone ( my GSD's) not take in a new baby in stride.
And of course as we all know being the LEADER is most important in =
anything
with our GSD's
So if MOM says we have a new baby?........ I guess we have a new
baby...might as well love em! :)

I just received an e-mail from a couple that bought a puppy from me 9 =

ago and they are having their first baby in July.
Anyone have any suggestions on getting the dog prepped for the new
addition? I guess they have bought a baby noise CD and carry a doll =

it in and out of the crib. The baby is due in july. Any other ideas?
