Cattle prod. I use a zap light, but in this situation I think carrying a shock
stick (cattle prod) would be most effective. Sorry he has to face this. Makes

We had wild dogs in my neighborhood while growing up ammonia and vinegar
spray work well too.
I know carrying this stuff is no fun but being safe is the most important
thing.

Shepherds though the dogs might be a GSD mix or who knows.
Our son lives in the Marshall Is. He is accustomed to
running along the lagoon for exercise and recently dogs have
been chasing him and most recent they formed into a
pack. Today they surrounded him so he couldn't protect
himself very well. He carries pepper spray but taking
into account the wind etc, he was only able to fend off a
couple in front of him. Each time he turned,
another dog got in back of him. He was bit on the arm
and his clothing was torn but the skin wasn't broken.
Someone near by came to his aid with a stick and they
managed to break up the pack - probably about five dogs.
Dogs there run freely and while are owned, mostly are
scavengers and not well cared for. He did
call the police who likely will do little to nothing.
He will pursue this and the dogs may be tied for awhile but
not likely much will change.
Any suggestions on what he might do more to protect
himself?
I feel this is a very dangerous situation and I tried to
convey this to him so he will continue to pursue the
authorities to do something.
It won't do much good for him to get a dog to run with him
as last time he had a dog and he took care of it, someone
stole it and made lunch! Such is life on an
'emerging' 'enlightened' country.
