Very well said. We are responsible. This is our world, we made it. Dogs are
designed by us, humans. They are a direct result of our human efforts. And
stupid humans should not have dogs that need real management.

I cannot stress enough the need for early training. This Akita might well
have a been a fine pet, if he had recieved training from the start. I blame
every person who ever came in contact with that dog for more than a minute for
his bad behavior. I don't care if there was another dog first or if the lady
he bit ran into him, or whatever brought about the incedent. If the dog had
had the kind of training Akita need, this would not have happened. And as for
this last owner, she deserves what happens to her.

It is training people. 99% of all dogs do fine, if they are trained to start
with. I use my own dogs as examples of what training can do, and my clients as
what happens when training is not done or done right.

IT IS TRAINING PEOPLE, not the dogs. It is up to us, all humans to care for
our pets properly.

I just want to make a point that the dog did not attack the person
originally, he attacked another dog. Not to say that this is ok , but you have
to remember that certain breeds are bred to fight and have a low flash
point....akitas, pit bulls, etc.... these dogs are BRED to fight and they
agitate and get into "fight mode" very easily....once in fight mode, they block
every thing out, be it people, pain, anything, because that is what they are
bred to do....fight to the death, even if it kills them! I have known many
people who have gotten in middle of a dog fight and gotten bitten badly, even
by shepherds .....they do not realize that they are biting a person, especially
with these breeds that have a low flash point....they blank everything out.
With that in mind, they are not breeds that are for everyone, and you really do
have to know your dog body language to have one of these dogs even if you raise
it from a puppy, let alone to rescue an adult with unknown
 background..
..the way you handle them is entirely different from say a golden or a lab.
Yes, it was wrong for him to attack another dog, but how many of us have had
shepherds that would go after another dog that got in their face or what they
perceived as their space if they were not handled correctly? I can think of
many a dog that I have shown or handled that I would NEVER trust the average
person to hold onto, because they need to be watched closely and can't be
trusted. I totally am not saying that a dog that randomly is allowed to attack
other dogs at a dog show or any other public place is ok, but it is not the dog
that would be at fault, but the owner for letting them and getting them into
situations like that. and if a dog cannot be kept under control, then he has no
business being there. If I know I have an dog that is or can be dog aggressive,
I hold them on a very tight leash, or by the collar, keep lots of space between
me and other dogs, I keep their face by my hand, and i
f I am walking through a crowd I pretty much hold onto their muzzle. If I am
standing in the ring waiting or by ringside, I dont just let them wander, they
are right by me and if someone is approaching me I watch the dog to see what
they are thinking....if they look too interested I say "watch me" or "leave
it"... in other words, I am responsible and aware of my dog and his
surroundings at all times. From what I understand, this woman took a dog she
had just gotten and did not know much about, but obviously suspected he had
aggression issues if she was asking people to "come at him" to see if he would
do anything, and took him to a place he had no business being, a dog show with
lots of action and excitement, and then did not pay close attention to him and
let him get into it with another dog. She should never have brought a dog she
could not control or predict to a dog show, or if she brought him there for
training or to assess his behavior, then she should have been 100%
on top of him and he would not have had the chance to get into trouble. Dogs
are dogs and they do dog things...we as their caretakers and responsible dog
people are supposed to be aware of our dog and our surroundings at all times,
and therefore keep them out of trouble. Unfortunately, now the dog has
seriously hurt a person and will be put to sleep no doubt.....and who is to say
that he was not a time bomb to start with and maybe should not have been
adopted out in the first place...we will never know...but had his handler/owner
been more responsible, the poor lady would not have been so viciously attacked
and maimed for life.
