The requirement of critiques is a very controversial subject, many think they
want it but they don't......the two Nationals that I missed in the last 15
years one was in Daytona.....I was told that one of the class judges gave a
critique after every class, live and in color in front of everyone......my
source told me the majority of the audience did not appreciate this!......be
careful what you wish for, cuz you might get it!...some judges are not
knowledgeable....so what would a critique mean from them?.....a judge gives her
critique by pointing her finger, first, second, third, fourth, winners dog,
winners bitch, best in show........we probably don't need to open Pandora's
Box.......we have enough to deal with already.........Mr. Goldfard also
mentioned that many young folks seem to be drawn to WDA and ScH USA.....why is
this?.....I went to a dog show yesterday........saw a dog that knocked me off
my feet ( almost literally).....a handsome powerful

Several comments on not needing the judges opinion on the animal judged.
That may well be true BUT what about those watching who may not know everything
there is to know about the breed as the person who bred the dog or owns the dog
or recently purchased the dog.
We can ALL learn from others and, again, perhaps with these little explanations
a new person now understands what the judge saw that made their decision.
There is no perfect specimen but all have faults some more significant than
others--but I know ---your dog is the perfect specimen(:
There is no question in my mind that requiring critiques at the shows will
increase knowledge and act as a stimulus to increase membership.
Just look at the enthusiasm and participation, with many young people, that the
WDA and (forgive me) Sch USA has gleamed.
We need youth- we need more entries and besides the above mentioned I have
several ideas that I will bring to the Board to consider in the future.
As previously mentioned a critique can and should be given with facts that are
meaningful that all can see and done in a positive way not negative.
