Sorry to chime in, but I think people may be overstating the law in this
area. I am not an expert in this area of the law, but just because you have
a picture on your website, does not mean that you own the copyright to the
picture. The person who took the picture owns the copyright and has a right
to enforce the copyright laws. If someone takes more than a picture from
your website, then maybe you can argue that the arrangement in your website
is copyrightable and you own it.
Even if someone copies a picture from your website, my understanding is that
if they don't use it for commercial purposes that you don't really have a
claim either. It depends upon whether it is fair use. For example, if I
take a copy of Oscar off of his website and use it on my website to show my
bitch's sire, I doubt anyone would have a claim against me.
However, lawyers can write letters about anything. Sometimes it works and
sometimes it does not.
