I agree with you to a point. Where I start to disagree is when a dog NEEDS
a special diet, (allergic to one or more proteins, needs something else), or
a handful of supplements to look good, feel good and stay healthy and sound,
God bless the dedicated owners for putting up with that and for trying to
make life good for their challenged dog but for the love of Pete, take them
out
of the gene pool.
Not only is all that an awful lot of work for those of us who compete with
our dogs, but what about the unsuspecting companion puppy buyers who take the
siblings home. Do they also need a degree in nutrition to have a dog who is
feeling good, looking good and who is able to digest food and do they too
have to spend $$$$ on all sorts of "special" diets and supplements?
Maybe it's an old fashioned way of looking at things, but give me healthy
dogs who do well on just quality kibble, fresh water, fresh air and lots of
exercise who enjoy good health, conceive without turning it into a science
project, easily whelp healthy litters without me having to have multiple
freezers
and an entire medicine chest of "stuff" and I'm happy.
Now, if I could get mine to shed only once a year like Carolyn's, I'd be
delirious!
