When I see crickets I am always glad to discover they are crickets not
scorpions or tarantulas..or spiders

We out west in the great basin have crickets. These crickets are
sectarian, subscribing to the Mormon religion or so we are told. The
Mormon crickets do not come in bunches of six, they come in swarms of
thousands. Last year they came to our house. The yard was literally
black with them. You could not drive out the driveway or walk up to
the road without crunching hundreds of them.
We sprayed, the state people came and sprayed and in a few days the
live ones were gone and the bodies of the fallen remained to decay
over time. There are too many of them for exterminators and the birds
can eat only a limited amount. But they really do not do much damage.
They eat a few plants but mostly just hop around and intimidate the
ladies.
The best way to get rid of the average few crickets is not an
exterminator, but a fishing club. Call them and tell them you have
free crickets for their fishermen and the crickets will be gone. At
least they would be if I were close by. Best trout bait available.
