Yes I do think that in Canada our Non breeding agreement is very good as is
our identifying system of each dog , tattoo or microchip and is noted by the
CKC on the registration papers.
No system is perfect, but this one works for most people.
People who are cheaters or liars will always find a way.but it will catch up
with them eventually.

Perhaps the AKC should reconsider the limited registration. In Canada, our
limited registration (called Non-Breeding Agreement) only prevents
registration of any progeny bred from a dog registered in this manner, as
does the AKC one. But any limited registered dog can be shown in CKC
conformation shows, as well as all other CKC sanctioned events. The
Non-Breeding Agreement can be changed by the breeder, and many breeders
here sell puppies in this manner as a "safe" way to grow them out and
maintain some kind of control of their breeding programs and bloodlines
while allowing many newbies to get their feet wet and try the show game.
Granted, there are pro's and con's to any kind of dealings or transactions
when dogs and people are involved, and any agreement or contract is only as
good as the paper it's written on and the people who write and sign
them. A Non-Breeding Agreement or limited registration doesn't change the
quality of any individual dog, and yes, PETS do get into the show ring (as
they do even when fully registered) but there is no harm in that in the big
picture. It might get people interested in trying the show game and
pursuing a better dog in the future, or it might even bring out a dog or
two who grew out better than a breeder might have expected.
I had a litter in September, ALL were sold on Non-Breeding agreements. One
of the males is sitting on 5 points at 8 months of age, with a few Breed
wins under his little belt, one male was shown once and was RWD, and the
female is about to get started (the other 3 were coats). They are also
futurity nominated and will be shown in that shortly. The Non-Breeding
agreements can be lifted in a flash if they turn out.
