Ed...
Do you have any idea how many breed CH compete in herding or obedience at the
upper levels? You could easily count them without even removing your shoes. ;-)

It wasn't until 2010 that the breed saw it's FIRST Dual CH. A Dual CH is a dog
that earns a championship in breed AND doing the work the breed was originally
bred to do. There are DCs for herding & hunting breeds. An OTCH (obedience) & a
MACH (agility) combined with a breed championship is a double champion...
because obedience & agility are not breed specific events.
If you had a Yorkie... it could never be a Dual, as there is no 'sport' Yorkies
were bred to do.

In 2010, a CH bitch earned the last of her Herding CH points & became the
breed's FIRST DC. AKC's
herding program had its first events in 1989. If we're generous, that's TWENTY
YEARS of herding until ONE champion GSD made it all the way to a DC. The other
breeds in the herding group, Belgians, Briards, Border Collies, Collies,
Shelties... breeds with far fewer registrations than GSDs have TONS of DCs.
(Btw... in 2010 2 bitches earned their DCs.... it was a heck of a year!)

The Herding Victor/Victrix award is given to the high scoring Advanced level
dog, not necessarily the high in trial. Why? Because Advanced is muuuuuch more
difficult than the beginning levels & when the committee 'invented' the HV
award, we wanted to recognize the handlers & dogs who had made it to the
pinnacle of AKC herding.

I began herding in 1992 & I've owned, trained, trialled 2 GSDs to their Herding
CH and competed at many a National trying to get one of those HV trophies.
Haven't done it yet. You train & prepare & hope that one that one day.... you
have a run that you & the judge are impressed with. It doesn't always work out.
I have a breed CH I'm training now & I hope to make him a DC.

To amend the requirements for HV to ONLY apply to breed CHs would save the club
a bit of folding money, as it'd be a long long long time before they have to
purchase another HV trophy.

A better solution would be to say, "Oooops, my bad. Sorry white dogs, you can't
earn our HV or OV titles."

.........It is now my understanding that the Herding Victor/Obedience Victor
are non regular awards...much like Grand Victor and Select....the whole debate
about dogs with disqualifying faults competing for Herding V and ObedienceV
have hit strong nerves on each side of the issue...my knowledge on award rules
is shaky at best so I'm not sure this idea of mine would be acceptable to the
club......to compete for GV and Select a GSD must first have those 15 points
with two majors ( I've only done that once lol)...well what if we offered a
Herding V and Obedience V only if the highest scoring dog/bitch was an AKC
GERMAN SHEPHERDÂ CHAMPION?....if the highest scoring dog is NOT a champion the
award goes as High in trial and no Victor award is given?..
