[ SHOWGSD-L ] When the Levees broke

Tonight, while I'm doing other things, the Spike Lee documentary,
When The Levees Broke, is on the television in the den...
and it's breaking my heart all over again. When I think of how we on
the list, and people on my other lists, got together and sent
packages to the flood victims, and remember how hard Greg and Linda
worked helping people in their own area, and how Jeanne Marcovitz
and the Bookers and the others who run the Monroe weekend (this weekend)
worked trying to help everyone...I think of the people
on these lists who actually went to New Orleans to help the people and
animals, I could cry...seeing all the devastation all over again, and
hearing the stories of the survivors, is just awful. To think that this
could happen in the United States...and to think that it could happen
again...it's almost unbelievable.
When I judged earlier this year in Houma, Lee Brown came over and
took me thru part of Metarie that had been flooded but not nearly as badly
as New Orleans and some other places...what he showed me was bad
enough. There were judges on the panel with me who couldn't
wait to drive into the Big Easy and look at the devastation first
hand..........I wondered what was wrong with them.....how could they
stand it? Watching it on television was bad enough....
If you haven't seen the Spike Lee documentary, look for it on your
cable stations. It's long, but it will open your eyes to how
we treated our fellow Americans.........
Everyone who's lucky enough to be in Monroe this weekend, say a
prayer for the suffering that went on a year ago South of
where you are for those great dog shows...and remember that last year,
the building you are showing your Shepherds in was used
to house refugees, both human and canine.........
