The 15 to 18 thousand dollar price tag probably doesn't include the removal and
then re-installation of the turf. That will run in the thousands. Don't forget
to price in the removal of the turf when we are done with it. Has a buyer been
arranged for the sod after we are through with it?
Someone had better rewrite the requirements for the national site. With the
entries getting smaller every year what is required is not justified buy the
revenue of the entries. To hang on to these requirements that will eventually
brake the club is just irresponsible. Do we spend this much time worring about
obedience, agility,herding?? Are they not the events that hold the national
shows out of the red?
If our dog's, the ones that can do anything, can't run on turf then we had
better start breeding better dogs.
As a club member I want to know who is trying to lead this club off a cliff.
We no longer need an indoor climate controlled facility. We need a large
outdoor grassy area.

As a judge of 51/2 Groups,I have judged ,over the 50 yrs, many different
breeds, on artificial flooring,including carpeting,and turf, with great
moving dogs at their Nationals ,like Siberian Huskies,Corgies,Dobes Golden
Retrievers and even Great Danes,and they do move slightly different on inside
,artificial turf,than the do outside on grass. As a handler ,I showed my
GSDs on grass outside,in barns ,,and parking ramps on cement floors with
sometimes rubber matting,and all sorts of odd footing. All 3 Nationals that I
judged were on Sod indoors/ And my opinion , is our GSDs are sooo different
in their gaiting ,and it so much an important part of our breed
judging.--- that sod inside or grass outside is really a must. That's why it
is
listed as a requirement for our Nationals. On the other hand ,if the astro
turf
has been upgraded from the earlier days,made smoother and softer,so dogs
pads are not affected,making dogs lame,and the surface has been "dog
tested" we should be open to the change,with it being less expensive.
No one wants a repeat of the Dallas National,where dogs went lame and
handlers could hardly walk by the end of Judging, Tom Bennett did that
National.
