This triangular piece of bone can be surgically removed and the dog will live a normal life. You will see the elbow/front leg rotate out slightly when the dog stands. The earlier the surgery, the less chance of calcium deposits. Softie that I was, I did have the anconeal removed, the dogs neutered, and gave them to wonderful pet homes. They lived to ripe old age. Helen I had one...and I had the surgery done at 4 mo. he did fine. And I know of others that have done what you did Helen...which I think is great.
