The Brittany Club holds two National Specialties per year.
The Summer National is strictly conformation.
The late Fall Specialty is always held at the same place in Arkansas......
emphasis is on field tests as these folks work on horseback, hence the
need for a large area.
Just attended the German Wirehaired Pointer National......they have the same
problems
as they need a large area for their hunt tests. and the Chesapeake Retreiver
Club
has to split their show sites for performance.
Looks like it can be done anyway a Breed Club would like to do it.

Ruth brings to my mind a very significant question! What Does the National
really mean to you! Why do you support it ( if in fact you do) how can we
improve it! This is a great reason to have a National Symposium , a panel lead
discussion with a moderator , with audience participation , with live internet
capability for those who can Not attend! The wisdom and knowledge of the people
involved in this breed! It seems like we're always involved in conflict ( and
I'll take my fair share of the blame for that) , law-suits, misunderstandings,
and all the rest of the BS involved in this sport! I don't think we all as a
whole present a wonder example of why folks should become involved with us and
" our " club....I think things could be better, but we gotta meet first, talk,
and most important LISTEN to each other... listen even to the crazies! And I'm
in that group. Ed Hill

All of those activities are part of what makes a National just that. Otherwise
it is just a larger trial/show.
The National could be (should be) the premier education and PR event of the
year. But this club doesn't really think so, so it probably makes little
difference to any one but the people we want to convince of the superiority of
this breed and get to join the club.

Obviously there will be some 'down sides' to every decision. But this is one
idea that Ed came up with that may work to
give some people the chance to get to an actual National out of St. Louis!
Also... It does seem all the Working venues
do love it at Purina as Ed stated originally.
