According to Helen Miller Fisher, in her article "Judging the German
Shepherd Dog" in the September, 1984 Review:
" The first Shepherd shown in this country was Mira of Dalmore. She was
shown in the Miscellaneous class in 1907, entered as a Belgium Sheepdog. In
1911 they were registered as a separate breed; in 1918 the AKC listed them
as Shepherd Dogs and in 1930 the name became German Shepherd Dog."
This is a great article, by the way. If you get a chance to get your hands
on it, it's worth the read.
