My favorite way to teach a dog to go out in front was in a hotel room at shows a few years ago. My room was clear down at the end of a long corridor. When no one else was in the hall, I put the dog on a long flexi and just told him "Let's go" and let him go to the end of the lead and I tried my best to keep up with him so he wouldn't feel any restraint. After a few of those runs, he knew exactly what "Let's go!" meant. The advantage to the long corridor was there was no place for the dog to go but straight ahead -- no distractions, no diversions.
