Laurie you should seek redress with a formal complaint to AKC. We have to put a muzzle on these Gestapo tactics by some AKC Reps. There is a proper way of confronting double handlers. The way she handled it with you is indefensible. If she had done it to me in the same way I would have decked her. Lucky her. Sorry about your condition. But please give that Rep hell through official channels. Tony Amoroso Ps; As a judge, usually at an all breed show if the double handling is getting out of control. The judge is the first to notice it , especially the cow bells. I stop the judging and make an announcement that if the madness continues I will penalize the obvious culprits. Judges should become more proactive if the double handling gets out of hand. Just my opinion. I was one of the people that she physically "hit". On Friday I was standing at the far end of the ring beside a big pillar with my hand in my jacket pocket, jiggling my keys. There was no one in the rings next to GSD's on either side at the time and I was bothering no one. The AKC rep walked behind me and hit my arm with a fair amount of force - apparently hoping to knock my hand out of my pocket. (I wasn't aware that there was an AKC rule that says you can't have keys in your pocket and that, if you do, you certainly can't touch the keys in your pocket.) Furthermore, I am on chemotherapy for a cancer recurrence and I have to be very careful of injuring/bruising my skin (this particular drug manifests its side effects on skin). So, hitting me could have had bigger consequences than the AKC rep counted on. On Sunday, I was one of the lucky people who got screamed at by the rep - again for having my hand in my pocket touching my keys. Again, I was bothering no one but that didn't matter to the rep. She got in my face for far longer than she needed to and then proceeded to interrupt the judge to tell her that I was disrespecting the judges wishes by doubling. Later, when I tried to mend fences with the rep (whom I thought had totally overreacted but I figured it wasn't in my best interest to be on her sh*t list long term, she refused to accept my apology. IMO,she's got a serious lack of people skills and definite anger management issues. In addition, she accosted me two other times when I was doing absolutely nothing - once sitting at ringside watching judging and the other time standing at ringside talking to Debbie Hokkannen. I started showing dogs when I was 11 (43 years ago), have finished 15 champions, many of whom were shown at all-breeds as well as specialties, and I've never encountered the kind of behavior I saw from this AKC rep this weekend. God bless Carol Holland (the former Divison I AKC rep)- she was firm but fair and she would be turning over in her grave if she knew how this woman behaved this weekend. I work in higher ed administration and deal with the public on a regular basis, some of whom are unhappy about our "rules". However, if I or anyone who worked for me treated any of our students in the manner that the AKC rep treated exhibitors this weekend, I would be out of a job. Furthermore, had I gotten into the faces of fellow exhibitors the way the AKC rep did, I'm quite sure I could have had a bench show committee called on me. Her behavior around the ring certainly would not have made a positive impression on spectators or on new comers to our sport.
