The German Shepherd cannot be measured in the ring. Only breeds with height DQs
are allowed to be measured. Same with weight DQs only dogs with that in their
standard can be weighed.

Highly possible a judge might do that.......But...
It is also possible they actually find something else we cannot see in the
'standard' dog even though correct in size?
I know we had a male one inch over the 26" Standard penalized for his size by
one judge. Our dog went on to
Am. Can. Select and herding titles and ROM. The winning dog that day took a
long time to finish.
I personally would hate to see our Breed ruled by a wicket. I prefer we trust
our GSD judges and allow a Judge to
interpret the Standard according to what they deem important.....and we opt to
show under that judge or not.

The issue for me is, that a dog that is oversized an inch or so, will
generally not be penalized or found to be faulty, but a dog that is CORRECT and
within the standard(24"-26" for males), probably WILL be penalized not only by
a judge but by the fancy, even when it is correct to the standard. If we would
starting putting a wicket on our dogs we may find out how far off "medium" size
we have become in our breeding programs. to be honest, I probably would not
find a male that was at the low end of the standard as desirable, either, but
it would not bother me as much with a bitch. C.Grainger

IMO a LARGE dog built like a correct GSD is going to be a lot more agile and
capable of work than a dog built like a Great Dane or St. Bernard at medium
size.
We need to understand and KNOW WHY the Standard is rewarding us with an
awesome working dog
