It's preferable to putting a dog in the pound because you can't walk it.
And sure we want to recommend obedience training to everyone, but in the
interim, you need a tool to help you get along till results are achieved.
Vets can tell you a choke chain is easier to abuse and more likly to cause
neck injuries than a prong collar, which only pinces the skin. Those halti
things have a nasty habit of rubbing the hair off the dogs nose.
The dog runs when I try to put the halti on. He stands still when I put the
prong on.
I have a working line/cross, and 85lb show dog and a puppy, everybody under
the age of two, and I able to walk all three at the same time through the
miracle of the prong collar. I don't even have to hook it to the leash. It
just needs to be on.
One good correction is preferable to several bad ones with a choke chain.
I'm hardly weak or sick.
I don't care much for general statements either. Had enough of those from
the working line folks. You should read what they think of us.

People that use prong collars should not own a dog.
If they are to weak or sick, they should have a cat.
That is my believe and I am sticking to it.

I have roadworked both GSDs and Dalmatians for several years now... I don't
just do it before the National, but do it all year (as long as I can when it
isn't snowing or 40 below).... I tend to bike dogs about 3 - 4 nights a
week, 2 miles, especially the GSDs since I cannot walk fast enough to keep
up. On the nights I don't bike, I hand walk a couple miles on whatever show
collar they are going to be shown on so the learn to associate the collar
with more than just work. When biking, I use a prong collar and a 6 - 10
foot leash on both breeds... And pray no critters show up :-)
