[ SHOWGSD-L ] Right On Kathaleen

As I was reading the post from Kathaleen I was pushed back in time a couple
of years when Kansas City hosted a Futurity and had Nutro Natural Choice Dog
Food agree to sponsor the Futurity and donate ALL of the trophies. I received
a
written letter telling me that I could not let Nutro sponsor the Futurity by
donating the trophies. I was told that Purina did own the Futurity. I was
naturally upset because now we had to go out and beg for trophies for which we
have to pay for in advance.
I contacted Nutro and they agreed to sponsor the rest of the weekend which
meant they provided all the trophies, a Barbecue Dinner for everyone, the
catalogs, everything a show could need. Nutro had a booth at the two days of
Specialties.
After the weekend was over I started asking about the Purina ownership and it
really is sort of an unwritten rule I guess because even after speaking to
Ernie Planck of Purina he said they really wished no other food company would
participate but they were running into this problem with other breeds they
partner with like they do the GSDCA.
Think about it, Purina donates a WONDERFUL (I wish I had it) trophy to the
Futurity Breeder of the Year, yes they do give food coupons to the
Futurity/Maturity Finalists and yes they do write the GSDCA a check for almost
$10,000.
This is a wonderful program but that SAME CHECK COULD PAY FOR ALL THE REGIONAL
FUTURITY TROPHIES. And for my take I would like to see that Purina support
given directly to the Regional Clubs who host those Futurities. Purina could
really sponsor the Futurity System and pay for all the trophies.
And speaking of sponsors:
Wonder if Purina, IAMS, Nutro, Royal Canin, etc., would want to sponsor the
GSDCA Futurity System and maybe even the GSDCA National for $?????? dollars?
IAMS gave AKC $2 Million for the televised show last week and I am not
suggesting the GSDCA National will be that big and on TV BUT you never know
unless you
try.
