The Kansas City BBQ Society has a form called " request to speak at the
Board Meeting".... Members have to fill out the form, name, membership
number, brief summary of topic... If selected the member is allowed 3 minutes
to
speak to the Board in the open session, the board may or may not have
follow up questions or comments! Request to speak form is NOT a guarantee
that
the member will get the opportunity to speak, the number of requests and
the amount of time regular agenda items take are factored into how many
members get to speak....what a great way to have members feel like they are
being heard! After all , the club belongs to the members! Think this could be
done in the GSDCA? It could if I were president! lol.... BBQ after every
meeting! ... No Stormy, I am NOT breaking the politics rule on the list, not
running for president! FB

I belong to a number of organizations. Not that I joined, but for one
reason or another, I became a member.
I am the attorney for and a member of the Model A Ford Club of America,
with 30,000 members. We can always address the board, but they have a five
person board, and have to find people to run each year.
I belong to the International Brotherhood of Magicians with about 6,000
members, and we are always welcome to address the board at a board meeting.
I am a member of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America. We used to
always be welcome to address the board, and often great ideas came from the
attending members. At the National, we even used to vote at the Annual
Meeting,
and at one time voting members were on one side of the room and the riff
raff little people on the other side.
I always thought the GSDCA allowed people to be addressed from the floor,
but perhaps you had to first contact the President to let him know the
topic. From what I have been told, now you can't speak at all.
I guess times change, but perhaps it is time to have someone on the board
find a way to include us little people. Some of us have good ideas. Not me
and Flower Boy, but some of the others.
And it is getting time to send those Donations To The Juniors. I would
like to present a reasonable amount this year.
