Evan and I have debated this a bit. He is right, in some ways, (Gawd, I hate
to admit that) but, I do not think of these accumulated "extra" points as
"depriving" other dogs of points. Harley now has, as of July 25, 2010, 51
Grand Champion points, including 8 major wins, under 8 different major judges
and 18 total judges, with champions defeated at 12 different events. It does
seem odd that the AKC keeps tallying these points. Perhaps there will be
rankings based on total Grand Champion points? One good thing is that this
method ensures that the Grand Champion title is NOT a cheap title and will be
harder to achieve in the future. JMO, of course.

Subject: Question-Group Wins and More

Does anyone have an opinion of the Grand Champion points?

I know that even after becoming a Grand Champion, those looking for Best of
Breed, Group wins, and Best In Show are in the regular show and get
"extra" Grand Champion points. While I understand it, there seems to me to be
a
void looking for a cure.

Had that point not gone to a dog that doesn't need it, it might have gone
to another dog that was looking for his or her Grand Championship. I know
when I judged in Ohio, I would have given Grand Champion points to at least
six entries.

I wonder if the AKC has considered a solution?
