I don't think the Parent Club strong arms anyone to join the GSDCA, Inc.....nor
do they penalize members
but actually strive to reward members. This Club even gives out a
Certificate of Recognition if a dog
lives to be 13 years!! .
It seems more than reasonable to me to expect the GSDCA, Inc. Awards to be
given to members only.
They ARE Parent Club Awards!!
Our LOCAL Clubs pretty much make the same requirements..... even to the point
of requiring members
to attend at least a certain number of meetings per year in some Clubs.
WHERE or WHO the dog lives with of course..... should NOT be an issue.
When this discussion comes up.......be sure to read your January minutes and
see how many Awards
Chairs and Chairs and Committees are assigned to work on these Awards and
Titles that are given out
at a pretty good expense to our Club. The List is long and is a big part of
the beginning of every year
and every new Board with President and Officers finding new Chairs...and
Committees.
I know how hard our ROM Chair works year round on the ROM Awards. It is time
consuming and a lot
of work and research keeping constant records for people who don't even send
the dogs name or
parents to her when asked. A LOT of time and work AND expense goes into any
plaque or Award.....
making sure the records are complete....accountability to the Parent Club
Board, and the owner/ breeders
and making sure every name and title and owner is spelled correctly and at
great expense
in ordering and shipping.........on ANY Award.....and the care involved in
giving them and taking care of
them till the new owner has them in their hands.
For Select Excellent which is awarded that day we even have a Chair that must
have records kept on all
dogs show that are OFA and have that information available and ready the day of
the show......there is
just a lot of work and workers behind every single Award......
Our membership dues are reasonable and we get a great GSD Magazine along WITH
the dues. IF our
Review is failing.....it is because we are not advertising! We all have
reasons.... from finances to maybe
no dog to advertise......but this is not the Parent Club nor the Review Editors
fault. It's OUR Magazine!
We have hard working Board members, Officers, Chairs, Committee members that
work every single week
on research, the web site, Educational Seminars, etc....making sure the
events, records and awards are handled
as quickly and correctly as they can manage and they spend a lot of time doing
this.
Are they perfect............NAW.........are we perfect...........NOT!! <G>
But It's OUR CLUB and to penalize one of the greatest Dog Clubs in AKC because
we are angry at a few by
not joining....or not re-newing..........pointless ........and a real loss to a
great Club and hardworking caring
members.

In my opinion the policy should be changed. The breeder of said dog or bitch
should be a member of the GSDCA. Period. If the breeder is a member, the dog or
bitch should get the award no matter where it resides, even if it resides with
non-members. Penalizing the breeder and the dog for where the dog resides, does
a diservice to both and does not capture the essence of what the award should
be about. Trying to strong arm others into joining the GSDCA by not giving the
award to those who deserve it only results in more people quitting, not more
people joining. Who wants to either join or maintain membership in an
organization that fails to recognize flawed policy that penalizes its members?

policy requires all recipients
of GSDCA awards be a member of the GSDCA, including but not limited to ROM
AOE, Dual Title Awards
