Hi Cindy,
I'm sending this to the whole list in case the info could
help others in your situation. I've been where you are
now. Modern medicine is wonderful, but there comes a point
where it can't offer very much to our elderly pets except
pain management. But dogs can still be helped to live
normal, happy and relatively pain-free lives. If you have
a board-certified veterinary acupuncturist located
anywhere within a reasonable drive to you, make an
appointment and GO... as soon as possible!! Many of these
folks will also be trained or have a serious interest in
Traditional Chinese Medicine, including Chinese herbs.
These alternative treatments are wonderful things that
can really add to the quality of life for our oldsters.
When they were alive, our very old girls just loved their
weekly treatments. They would lie there as the needles
went in and you could see and hear them breathe deep sighs
of relief as their bodies relaxed and the pain and tension
left them. They were both also getting the Chinese herbs
to help strengthen and support them. And I feel this
helped the two of them live happy and complete lives -
right up to the end. I would absolutely do it again.
