Randy, I did not intend to get dragged into this minutia and sought to pull the
discussion back to the original focus and quite frankly I thought you(and
others) had more to offer then that.  I certainly thought more highly of you
then that. I f you feel the  conversation should be directed to spelling
errors - so be it, when your done debating the source of the fopaugh - great
perhaps we can then have a meaningful discussion or freindly debate , in the
mean time I don't find a lot of value in it so  count me out

Subject: Prosternum or Posternum?

Oh come on Mike!

Are you saying that one interpreter was universally responsible for a century
of mis-use by virtually hundreds of credible authorities on the subject
including the Founder of Breed? lol... Do you realize how ridiculous that
sounds! Re-read Peggy's post as it was very factual and informative.

I do not own a breed specific book or publication (and I have most) that uses
the word "Posternum"! Some of which include the more notable authors such as:
Von Stephanitz, Goldbecker, Bennett, Strickland-Moses, GSD Encyclopedia, etc.,
and there are many, many more!

Additionally, the written Breed Standards adopted by the SV, GSDCA and AKC are
all WRONG? And most importantly, that the misuse of this term was remarkably
uncovered by you on this List! Brilliant... Is this what you are saying Mike as
surely don't want to mis-quote you?

I to would prefer closure on the topic, however, as a student of the breed I
prefer accuracy and facts in lieu of possibilities, generalities and
speculation when it comes to breed specific history...

Call it what you want, I'm sticking with Max! ,)

Randy Darnell

Actually Randy, the interpreter responsible for the German to
English transcription used the word.......................

Enough already,  you've buried the discussion in nonsensical flutter

Thank you Peggy and you are absolutely correct!  Moreover, I  appreciate the
specific reference to this term (i. e. author, chapter, page, etc.) and how its
usage amongst recognized authorities on the subject...
It is unclear why would anyone that correctly understands "Dog and Breed"
specific terminology would chose to reference an inapplicable source(s) to make
a point that has such little relevance to the topic? To say the very least, its
confusing to those, novice or otherwise, who use these sites as reliable
sources of breed education.  And frankly, who cares how the term is used in
humans and bugs as I thought we were talking dogs, specifically the GSD!

So as a point of reference for Jodi, Doc Zoe, Mike, etc., I might suggest a bit
more reading on breed specific history before making nonsensical assertions
that run contrary to the breed's founder, breed authorities, and the written
breed standard!

As a place to start, Rittmeister (Calvary Captain) Max von Stephanitz uses the
term "Prosternum" beginning in his first book (i.e. The German Shepherd Dog in
Word and Picture, circa 1923) and quite frankly, that's good enough for me!
 ,) lol...
