The Hawk, beautiful as they are, WILL take off with one of the small dogs.
They especially perk up when puppies are out.
Where I lived in Upstate NY there were plenty of hawks. There was an older
woman (much older, dog person too) living down the road from me when one day
she called me up to ask how my puppies were doing. I told her fine, they
were out on the deck sleeping in their x-pen. They were about 8 weeks. She
told me, frantically, that they shouldn't be out there without a top on the
x-pen because the hawks would take them. I thought she was a little looney
until the day we had only two puppies left, about 13 weeks, when I saw this
huge shadow over the pen. Mr. Hawk was coming in for lunch. Dan & I
grabbed a puppy each and the Hawk flew behind us following until we got into
the house. He was flying very low and close to us. Good thing there were
only two puppies because they were pretty heavy.
After that we had a 'puppy run' that was the covered run.

Forget the coyotes, which we don't see around here. We do see foxes, but
they are more scared of us than we are of them. My only concern with them is
the fleas and ticks during summer time.
Our bully is a Hawk. What a magnificent bird this is.....he has been
perching in one of the neighbors tree for, according to the neighbors, about
7
years. Now, here is the deal.....our neighbors take their bird feeders
quite seriously. I cant even begin to imagine how much money they spend on
bird seed. And bird houses. I am delighted, there is always a beautiful
display of beautiful birds in their yard and ours. No complains.
But, I am sure the Hawk feels the same way. Buffet line. Mother Nature
at work.
The poodles don't go out alone anymore. Specially Huckleberry....he is only
10 pounds. The preferred babysitter is Jackie, I've noticed Mr Hawk
doesn't look this way when the GSD are out, but tends to get closer when
only
the poodles were out. Not taking a chance, I am sure he could fly off with
Huckleberry.
Too much time on my hands looking out the window.
