I spent about 5 hours with my horse this morning. What a treat that was
to release the care of my new 5 month old son to my husband<G>. And of
that 5 hours of the time 4 was spent riding as to which my girl Cassie
(Am. Ch. BOF Can. Sel. Ch. FVX BIM Castlehill's 'Cuz I Can v Frontier
OFA) spent gaiting around trying to 'herd' us. I kept thinking how nice
it was to have her along to look at.:) And yes she really did keep it up
the whole time!
She is pretty and elegant just like her mama and papa. Obviously well
bred "SHOW" dog and yet - she can do what the breed was originally bred
to do for hours. She wanted me to go again tonight, but dinner and
family need to happen sometime<LOL>.
I couldn't imagine seeing a dog that has competed so well in this breed
that couldn't keep up the gait. A dog that is competitive in showing
must be kept in great condition.
Herding all day? The dogs would probably prefer it:)

I was reading the list mail a couple of days ago, and somebody said
something
that stuck out to me. I apologize in advance because I cannot remember
exactly WHICH person said it.
The comment I read was (at least along the lines of) "Many of our dogs
couldn't keep up the gait we ask of them today."
So my honest to God I have no understanding WHY question is...Why is
this?
Aside from being "pretty" and "elegant" why is it bred for if the dogs
could
not keep it up, as they'd need to if somebody did decide to herd (Or do
something else) with them?
Responses (private ones are preferred, just so I can sort through things
more
quickly :-) )?
