It was always so different in Canada....you could not register a dog years ago without either a tattoo or nose print, then they changed that to tattoo or microchip. Think it is still the same. Breeders who tattoo are issued permanent letters to use for the CKC. Therefore, permanent registration info placed on all X-rays to OVC or OFA. Always thought the AKC system was way too loose.
