We're further north in Tacoma, WA and we are still getting the freezing rain. The roads are treacherous and lots of limbs and trees are falling down in the area. The warmer temps are coming up from the South and we can hardly wait until it gets here. They are calling for the possibility of flooding once the normal rain gets here and all of this snow melts but so far it doesn't sound like any major floods. Many people are without power but crews are working around the clock to get it back on. Good luck to everyone at the Portland shows. Drive safely and try to stay dry! Gail Gail J. Wells Echowind - Tacoma, WA Msg: #2 in digest Date: Thu, 19 Jan 2012 21:52:47 -0800 (PST) From: Ruth Scheubler <rightdogphoto@xxxxxxxxx<mailto:rightdogphoto@xxxxxxxxx>> Subject: Re: PNW residents.......... It poured all day - and the snow that had piled up in the lower elevations melted (it is 49 degrees here right now at 9:38 pm and at 1000 ft elevation) The rapidly melting snow combined with the VERY heavy rain has led to much local flooding - but so far the big rivers are below flood stage. They are predicting colder weather so the snow melt will slow down. Most of the absentees I saw were from the coast where they had very high winds blowing trees over, slides and flooding. The foothill areas had local power outages caused by trees blowing over, something we are used to but small local outages take much longer to fix. My normal 45-50 minute drive to the Expo Center was double that this morning. It is a big circuit and many people got there early. And it is hard to keep a show person from an event like this. It did prevent the public from coming. More rain tomorrow but occasional sun breaks scheduled for Sat which could bring the public to the show. As long as the freezing winds don't hit the Expo Center and cause ice, everything should be fine if damp and slow. I did enjoy watching the many different and creative "doggy raincoats" I saw as I stewarded at a ring near one of the main entrances. I believe there are a lot of GSD folks in the PNW, where weather's been so bad in the past couple of days... and while I've heard from several of you, would you all please take a minute and let the list hear from you...how you are, etc? I know Seatac is closed for the first time in many years, and a lot of Western Oregon was flooded and parts of the flooded areas are now frozen... For those on the list who don't know, this is also a big dog show weekend in Portland, Oregon...so we may even have listmates who went to those shows (or sent dogs with handlers).......any news? I'm more concerned with everyone's situation, not show results........ Peggy ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2011.
