The girl that I brought over from Germany is chipped. They no longer allow
any animal to be tattooed citing animal cruelty reasons.....guess they
haven't looked at our young people lately.....

Nowadays, there is no logical reason for a dog not to be chipped or
tattooed, IMO. Â So, I always wonder why dogs have NOPI after their OFA
numbers. Â Gosh, the dog is at least 24 months old! Â Makes you wonder if it
really was the actual dog being submitted or not. Especially since most vets
can microchip animals and could do at the time of the xrays.
And, before everyone starts screaming all of the dogs, or at least their
NOPI dogs are legit, it is my own personal opinion. Â I think ALL
submissions should be permanently identified PERIOD.
ALL of our dogs, even pets, are chipped. Â If I buy a puppy who isn't
chipped, I chip it. Â ALL of our puppies leave here chipped.

I agree too Kay. This "loophole" does need to be fixed. I never realized
hat this could happen. Â Maybe I just have encountered vets that made it a
equirement for them since they are signing it. Each vet I have ever seen
as required my dogs to have a microchip. Although if I was putting my
ignature on something verifying a dog I would want all my bases covered
oo. Â Thank you Kay for finding this info and showing it to me I definitely
id not know was not a requirement. Sad as that is!

I don't believe this to be true. Â If you want the dog listed on the AKC
edigree then you do have to have a permanent ID but otherwise there is no
equirement to have it when x-raying hips and elbows. Â So as far as doing a
heek swab for a DM test on one dog that you know is clear and submitting
nder another dog's name you can essentially do that with x-rays if so
esired. Â Here is what the OFA application says regarding PI on x-rays --

Only dogs with Verified Permanent Identification (VPI) will have their
esults transmitted to the AKC for inclusion in their registration and
edigree documents

The permanent ID is not required by OFA to do x-rays. I always thought that
his was a "loophole" that should be fixed.
