Well....... the 'hype' sure seems to work for a lot of people. But I would
never vaccinate for
something like that ..... unless like Parvo or distemper in the past, we were
seeing the loss of
thousands of dogs and cats.
But then......my husband and myself don't get flu or pneumonia vaccines for
ourselves either for
the very same reason. The ONLY time I have ever seen my husband sick was two
times when he
got the flu vaccine. He got dangerously sick with the flu both times that he
got the flu shot.
Now we turn our Dr. down every year for both flu and pneumonia vaccine....much
to his chagrin.
Neither one of us have ever had the flu.....except the two times Frank was
vaccinated.

I'm just sayin'....................<G>

And the hype is real! When the outbreak happened in another state (though the
next one over) back in April, we had a client who was terrified of CIV, so much
so that they didn’t bring their 2 puppies in for their regular vaccines! They
have since gone onto another clinic, one who still pushes yearly vaccination
and surely gave those two young puppies the CIV vaccination series— back when
it still cost about $100 per shot! Almost forgot to mention that these are
dogs who don’t leave their home/backyard except for coming to visit the
veterinarian….
People ARE falling for the hype, even in our little community that didn’t have
CIV within 200 miles of us!

I notice that the news article says NOTHING about the fact that the vaccine is
a “series”- one injection, wait 4 weeks, get a second, and then, protection
begins 7-14 days after the second injection… so takes 6 weeks to be protected
from this particular strain of flu.
So, no, we’re not recommending it at our clinic here in central WI- only 3
hours away from where the “big outbreak” was…
And, my thought is that flu viruses mutate all the time. How long will this
particular vaccine warrant protection, and how much protection would be given,
IF ANY, if the new mutation of H3N8 that now has a vaccine were to mutate
again?Just sayin’,….Jen P & her not flu vaccinated Pack
….. Now, a vaccine for canine influenza virus H3N2 has received conditional
approval from the United States <http://www.usda.gov/> Department of
Agriculture, which expedites licensing in emergency situations to avert
epidemics. As the holiday travel season approaches, the question is: Should you
get your dog vaccinated? …..
