I found some 20 years ago that there is a state law that does not allow
dogs (other than service dogs) in the rooms at a "resort". It has been
stated before that the Aussie National has been held there, but owners have
to agree to leave their dogs in the stalls, and not take them through the
casino/hotel area. The Mandalay Bay hosts the SuperZoo trade show each
year and there is a large grooming competition held in conjunction. Many
people take their service dogs along inside. The grooming dogs have to
enter through the back doors of the convention hall. I have seen some dogs
in the immediate interior hallways but I have not figured out how they are
allowed in. They are few and far between and mostly the toy varieties at
that. All the bigger dogs are in/out through the parking lot doorways.
Considering that this trade/grooming show is now held during the end of
July in Las Vegas (with temps well over 100) it gets interesting.
The GSDC of Southern Nevada still exists, though there are just a few
members. It's very difficult trying to obtain a park to hold the show, as
well as they are basically broke so members have to purchase all the
supplies (lunch, drinks, whatever) and donate. It's also very difficult
for them to be able to find local judges who draw and then to pay for their
expenses. Last I heard, they are considering connecting with one of the
all breed clubs to help save money.
