Hi: I was just watching the Eukanuba Special dog show last night on
Animal Planet and I was admiring all the hard work and effort that is
put in to shows like this and it brought to mind the Westminster Show at
Madison Square Garden and how many times I used to go there. Not to
show, but as a spectator. I will never forget being there when Ch. Covy
Tucker Hills Manhatten made breed history by being the only German
Shepherd to ever win BIS at Westminster. Was anyone else there? The
roar of the crowd when this dog floated around the ring with Jimmy
handling him to perfection, I shall never forget. I cried because of
the pride I felt for the breed. They were asking for it, and the crowd
wasen't going to accept anything else. I remember seeing the t.v. actor
Bill Crosby waiting at ring side for his dog (I forgot which breed it
was now) to take a big win also. He was a favorite, but it was not to
be this day. It was "Manhatten" when he walked in the ring and it was
"Manhatten" when he left the ring. The real fun began after the show
was finished. Gloria, Cappy, and Jimmy and all of the rest of us fans
were invited to a big party at the resturant at the hotel across the
street from the Garden. You should have seen Manhatten (or "Hatter" as
he was known to his friends), meet and greet all his guests. He was
running up and down the aisles of the resturant as if he owned the
place. This is what great dogs were made of. It just brought this all
back to me watching last nights Eukanuba special. Anyone going to
Westminster this year? Have a great day everyone. Barbara
