When I first got into GSD's, I was sold a bitch that had promise.....but as
she grew I had my doubts. Because I made a commitment to the breeder to show
her...I did.....unfortunately money was tight so I either showed her myself or
had an unknown but talented handler show her for me. As she got older, she, in
my eyes got less and less attractive.....certainly something that was not
worthy of being a champion....but something funny happened at around two....she
won and won and won....she finished just over two years of age with me and this
unknown handler putting all her points on her....
Is she worthy of being a Champion? Well considering all her points were put
on her by a couple of unknowns...I would say yes.....she still doesn't look
much like a champion as she sits out in my kennel producing puppies for
me....but one thing I now know that I didn't when I first came into this
breed.....that bitch can MOVE.
My point.....it isn't all about "looks" as some newcomers make the mistake of
thinking. I've got a beautiful male GSD sitting in my kennel right now with
one major on him....and he can't move worth a damn. I bet I could finish him
in an all breed ring...the question is...why should I want to? Answer - to
help his dam (the bitch mentioned above) get her ROM.
I bet there are alot of dogs that are finished for that reason alone, not
sure if that makes them worthy Champions or not.

them finishing..Here is a "for instance": Say, I had my heart set on
finishing a dog I knew was mediocre( which would only happen if I were
desperate)..I would drag him to BFE, someplace like Montana..Idaho or South
Dakota..where it takes 7 dogs to make a major.. and try to get him finished
with competition that could be equally as mediocre However you see I would
recognize he is mediocre..that is why I am showing him where the completion
is not stiff..How can you "claim" to have knowledge of this breed but yet
can't or don't recognize mediocrity exists and believe that all champions
are worthy...no wonder our overall quality keeps declining...the standard
bar keeps getting lowered instead of elevated because people can't tell the
difference!..You can't expect to breed greatness if you can't discern the
difference between it and below average. NO WONDER people get shafted when
purchasing show puppies...they either can't tell a good one from a mediocre
