It happens to be the case in the dog world as a whole...performance
draws a larger entry (over all) and therefore makes more money than
conformation. Does that mean we should drop conformation? I don't
think so.
People can do lots of things with dogs that can't be successful in
conformation. They can do obedience, agility, rally, herding, tracking,
and probably more. So can people who have dogs that are successful in
conformation. The converse is not true. Therefore, it stands to reason
that the performance venues will have more people actively competing,
and that's true in many breeds. There are some people, however, who are
only interested in conformation...and they are the breeders of those
dogs who compete in performance.
I don't know what all that means, but it's all true.
