[ SHOWGSD-L ] Mac the cereal killer (raisin toxicity)

I went to a friends home last evening for a BBQ. When I got home I let the
Hooligans outside and noticed that Mac was drinking so much water that I
actually had to stop him. When we went back into the house I saw that he'd
drained the water bowl bone dry. Then I discovered that Mr. Mac had gotten
into my pantry and eaten a brand new, never been opened, 20 oz box of KELLOGG'S
RAISIN BRAN.
I knew there was a possible problem with raisin/grape toxicity so I called the
ER. Because of the quantity he ate they felt it was better to be safe than
sorry and told me to take him in. They gave him Toxiban, Emesis-Apomorphine to
make him vomit. Both the vet and tech said he produced HUGE amounts of vomit so
he got his money's worth. After he was thru vomiting they gave him charcoal
capsules.
That box of cereal ended up costing me $168.00 - UGH!!!
The vet at the ER said that since Mac has an appointment this afternoon at his
regular vet's office for a recheck on his paw surgery and some skin biopsies,
that I should have blood work run to ensure he's not going into renal failure.
