It is interesting that different countries develop different attitudes.
Germany has always been a nation that follows a leader, in general. So, the
president of the SV is who judges the national every year, and decides the
direction of the breed.
In America we do not take that approach, and in fact, our President of the
GSDCA may not judge our National. It is an interesting difference.
In Germany they have breed wardens who decide what can and what cannot be
kept in a litter. They allow the judge of the shows to see what other judges
have done, and in fact use that to help determine the winners.
In America we are not supposed to know the history of the dogs we judge
and just judge them on that day.
In Germany a German shepherd may not be bred to a non registered SV dog,
thereby limiting the pool. In America we can bring in an SV dog, register
it with the AKC and breed to whatever we feel our lines need.
This is a different mind set, and results in a different direction for the
breed. It is foolish to say one is right and one is wrong. They are
different. Because of that there is more uniformity in Germany, for good
or
bad.
