Since there have been several references made on this list regarding "lifers"
on the board, attached with a negative undertone, I thought I'd do a little
research and see who has been on as director/board member and for how many
years.� But before I go into statistics there are a few points to ponder.
Anyone that has served on any kind of committee or board of an organization
regardless of its nature, will know that there is value and merit to having
people that have�past/current experience to running the business aspects of
such.��That goes for the GSDCA board as well, and I'm sure that is why
there is a staggered system for new directors and current directors, hence the
class of�2012 and now the new�directors for the class 2013.��
The pros of having repeat directors and officers is that they�know what works
and what doesn't work.� They also have knowledge of past successes and
failures and can pass that on to the�next class�of directors�coming
in.� The flip side of that is that�an attitude of "we've always done it
this way"�and not willing to listen to new ideas or�realizing "changes with
the times" and making proper adjustments.� I believe we've seen�more of
that in the last few years than ever before.�
Then there is the case of not enough "new people" or "fresh blood" as some call
it, willing or able to run.� It is a huge time committment and not everyone
is cut out to serve on�this board.� So the names keep recyling because
those are the people willing and able to committ to the�task at hand.�
There have been a few new names over the years, below is what I found.���
I looked up the officers and directors since 2002, the names are as follows and
in yearly order thru 2012.

The way I see it, there are some that serve for a short period of time and
either don't run or maybe don't get re-elected. �(I did not dive into it that
deep)� Some run and serve mulitple times, I guess those are the "lifers".�
I don't know if term limits would be good, but I do think the qualifications
for officers and board members should be addressed.� The thing I've seen the
most in recent years is people at the helm making decisions for the membership
and the regional clubs�that don't seem to be "plugged in" for a better use of
the term.� It seems to me that the individuals that are either officers or
directors in their local regional club and/or are still active breeders,
exhibitors or handlers (in whatever venue) seem to be more aware of
the�current "climate".�
Just to disregard someone�because they've�served multiple times is not
fair, on the other hand,�to consider someone�JUST because they've never
served �is not wise either.��Either way, the individual should be
qualified to handle the "business" aspects of the club as well as keeping the
general membership in mind when casting their votes.� �
