Really? If you don't compete in obedience how do you know if someone
is a good judge or not?
The obedience judge selection happens to be VERY important to some of
us. It makes us a bit crazy when we see a name listed on the ballot
that has obvious connections to the conformation community. We're
already thinking that the first judge has been pre-selected for
us....and it probably has.
Just think for a second: how would you feel if there was a judge on
the conformation ballot that all the performance people voted for
because we know he's a great guy and he also shows in obedience, but
maybe he's not the best conformation judge? And let's pretend that
judge was elected to judge specials at the big centennial show, simply
because he had the most votes? How do you think the conformation
exhibitors would feel?
For the record, I have shown to Harlowe several times....and he will
forever have a warm spot in my heart after I got a UDX leg from him on
a "challenging" dog, and in the process retired a challenge trophy.
And that club loves him because they'd been lugging that challenge
trophy around for almost 20 years and they were happy to be done with
that :)
