[ SHOWGSD-L ] Jan Coleman

By not being on the list for the past two months I just learned that our
German Shepherd family has lost another dear member. I personally lost a great
friend and mentor, no not a mentor in dogs...a mentor in life. I don't have
many left. Jan is ( and she is STILL with us) a former public school teacher,
and as far as I'm concerned there are not many higher calling jobs than that.
When I decided for some strange reason to retire early and return to school to
obtain a teaching credential Jan kept up with my progress and encouraged me in
ways I never shared with her. Every time I saw her at a show, which was often,
she wanted to know how many classes I had, when I'd be finished, what grade I
wanted to teach and so on. She shared some of her many experiences as a teacher
both positive and some not so positive. There were many days I wanted to drop
out of school, but then I thought...what would I tell Jan?...you won't meet a
kinder person. Never once
heard her bad mouth a judge , dog or anyone in the sport ( didn't say she
didn't do it, but she has class, I never heard it).......I asked Jan to marry
me once ( no disrespect to Dave)...Jan laughed and told me that she didn't have
the time or patience anymore to train a new husband. We talked about
sports!...Jan loved the San Diego Padres and the San Diego Chargers...we argued
and fought about her teams and mine. She once asked me if I'd rather go GV with
my dog or see the Raiders win the Super Bowl...she did not believe the answer I
gave her......I love Jan Coleman...she's one of the reasons that dogs shows are
fun...if you never meet this classy lady, you missed something...Go
Chargers!!!..E. Hill
