With this, the AKC is going to drive the small people out of the game. It will
be a rich man's game only. Â Obviously, none of those who have made this
proposal have passed Economics 101, i.e., the law of diminishing returns. Â This
action by the AKC during these hard times is suicidal.
I find it hard to feel sorry for the AKC's current financial status, given that
their tax statements for the years 2007-2009 are as follows:
2009 Net Assets $40.5 million
2008 Net Assets $22.8 million
2007 Net Assets $67.0 million.
This information was found on Guidestar.com. Â The 2010 information is not yet
available there.
The 990 form for the year 2009 shows that the revenue from registrations was
$27,767,561. Expenses for registration were $20 million. Other 2009 expenses
were for independent contractors: Accounting - $201,900; IT consultant -
$108,994; Legal firm in NYC - $108,536 and Legal firm in Wash DC - $137,500.
Then, there are the salaries... Â Here are a few...
Dennis Sprung - $710K
James Stevens - $469K
James Crowley - $267K
John Lyons - $380K
I think it is time that the AKC tighten its collective belt and they can start
by closing & moving those expensive NYC offices to NC. Â Also, I think they need
to re-examine the salaries that they pay the upper management and reduce them
accordingly to a salary more in line with what other "non-profit" organizations
provide. Â
We, the small breeders and owner handlers, are not a small number. It is past
time the AKC hears our voices. The AKC is where it is not because of the high
dollar owners, but because of us. Â We need to "Occupy the AKC". Â
