Hi Jen,
I'm afraid Liz jumped the gun on posting about the Amateur events. The
Futurity Co-Chairmen are having a conference call with the GSDCA board
Executive Committee in a little bit to figure out what we are doing with the
Amateur events.
Due to an AKC rule modification, some of the Amateur judges had to withdraw and
a couple of regions were hard pressed to find someone willing to judge with the
new AKC restrictions. We have been working for over three weeks trying to find
the best solution(s) for the clubs and the exhibitors.
We had planned to make an announcement yesterday but the South Pacific Region
had some questions about the options available to them. Until that was
resolved, we felt it best to hold off until we could inform the members about
the event(s) in ALL of the regions at one time.
We appreciate your support of the GSDCA Futurity system.

I have a question:
What about those regions who originally had both regular & amateur Futurities
listed; so one then makes their entries for both in their home region. But
then, the classes are changed & combined after the fact? (I know this is the
newly approved format beginning 2015- I try to keep up with the board minutes)
In January, all regions had separate amateur & regular Futurities. Last week, 2
regions decided to combine; and, today there are 3!?!
Are ppl in such a rush to do away with the amateur futurity that they're not
even happening in (currently 3) regions this year? It seems a bit late to me
to change up the program (for this year only I mean) seeing as the awards are
already purchased, there are entrants in amateurs, et cetera.
What is expected to happen for those who are entered in both for their region
where the classes are combined? People pay two entries to be judged by 2
judges; I'm sure there are entrants who enter the amateurs just so they get to
show their own dog for that one time of the year when they otherwise use pro
handlers the rest of the time. If the classes were to be combined, how then
would the amateur even have the opportunity to even show their own dog (as the
pro would then have it I would suspect)? If there is to only be one show, then
those owners would receive a refund for the amateur entry with those classes
gone? Or will they still be "separate", (classes/awards) but all judged by one
judge so each region can be represented in October for both systems?
While I know there had to be considerable discussion on how those combined
Futurities/Maturities would be run, I obviously missed out on those details.
