Tracking test are very difficult to put on It is very hard to find land. You
need enough land to lay tracks that the scent will not drift or be blown
onto the other dogs track. . A lot of the test are held on farmers fields,
and you are very limited to using the land when the crops are not on the
field ,that is why most are held in the spring and fall.
thank god for the farmers who share their land with us.
I am starting a dog in Kamloops now , as the hay fields are not growing at
this time of year. after the growing season starts I will have to drive up
on the mountains and train on the logging roads. so the training for some
people is limited too.
shutz, tracking is very different than CKC or AKC tracking as is search and
rescue tracking is different yet. The RCMP dogs track very differently than
Shutz. or AKC & CKC, tracking.
Variable surface tracking has opened new doors for land use. and can be done
on land that we could never consider before.
I hope this answers some of the tracking questions,

Why is tracking so few and far between? Is it a lack of interest? Tracking
judges?
I know that in the schutzhund venue, from big clubs to little clubs, every
trial holds tracking tests every time, and now that you can earn a tracking
title T1 through T3 independent of the schutzhund title it seems to be the
way to go.

All I know is that if you get in, you're willing to drive far to
either:)))))
