My almost 7-year-old male had a couple of episodes of vomiting recently, and three weeks ago, the vet did a complete blood panel. His ALT liver enzymes were at 535 -- normal is 118. We did an ultrasound, and my vet didn't see any evidence of tumors, but she thought he might have an inflammation or an infection. He was on metronidazole for two weeks and SAMe for a month -- still has a week to go. We redid the blood work yesterday, and now his ALT reading is 1,648!!! The weird thing is he doesn't act sick AT ALL. He's playful, hungry, stools are fine, hasn't thrown up again for three weeks. If I weren't totally neurotic, I might not have even taken him to the vet in the first place!! We're going to do a coagulation test tomorrow and bile acids, and planning a laparoscopy of the liver on Monday. This is the boy that was on Imuran and who had such a severe reaction to prednisone. Could those drugs have caused liver damage? He hasn't been on Imuran since August of 2005. Do any of you fellow listers have any experience with anything like this?? Any help you can give is GREATLY appreciated!! Private replies are fine. Fran Henry ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2006.
