Sounds like it could be something she cleaned the whelping box
or bedding with. I'd wipe down the box thoroughly and put in a
clean blanket for now. If she's using wood shavings, make sure
they weren't treated for insects - could be dangerous for the dogs.

Thought I would check with you - a friend of mine has springer spaniels and
just has a week old litter, and a couple of the puppies toes were real red
and swollen - she took those two to the vet and he gave them an antibiotic
shot and didn't really know what it is. When she got home the rest of the
puppies also have now got red toes and swollen, so she gave them antibiotics
as well.
Does anyone know what this might be? Has anyone ever had this? She does
not know what to do. The Emergency clinic doesn't have a clue either, and
her reproductive Vet is not open on weekends, so she is at a loss of what
this could be.
Would appreciate any help you can give.
