Touche' your point is well taken, but the difference is Bassett hounds and 
Poodles are NOT in our standard( at least for now they aren't) , and therefore 
can NOT enter our National.....hey I've been chasing the German Shepherd 
standard for a long time........believe me, I understand, and part of me agrees 
with the flip side of this argument.....but how can you have a dog beat out all 
the other dogs in obedience and then tell the owner....."Sorry, you're WHITE, 
or Sorry, you don't have enough testicles.......it just violates something in

That's a GREAT ARGUMENT.    
Let's say its a  Bassett Hound or a Poodle.........possibly we could 
incorporate 
that into our Breed Standard too!! 
Lets face it.......our Standard is an elite description of what we consider to 
be an ideal 
representative of a particular Breed.    What we do with the "results".....( 
the dog itself ) 
as far as training or breeding or winning........is what WE DO!! 


We either think the Breed we've chosen is important enough to us to adhere to 
it.......or not.

And that is a hero dog from the get go and should be rewarded as  such.  
But totally different than the guardian clubs official awards.   Apples and 
oranges on this one Ed. 
You don't have to meet AKC standards to be a great dog, but the  breed 
clubs charge of protecting the standard DOES come with  criteria.
