Sudden Cardiac Death. It has been found in German Shepherds and Boxers.
Somwhat varying etimologies in the two, but similiar. It can Spontaneous in
nature and not necessarily picked up on a routine exam (ie, just listening
with a stethescope).
There is a coloy of GSDs bred by Cornell with inherited ventricular
arrhythmias that is being studied. You can read more of that colony here:

Basically, it is an Arrhythmia, or abnormal rhythm. The median age of onset
of this particular arrhythmia is 4.5 months.
This is different from SAS, SubAortic Stenosis. SAS is another cardiac
disease GSDs are subject to. It is genetic. USUALLY though SAS can be found
by routine exam. It will present, through stethescope as a murmur. Obviously
not all murmurs are SAS... but if a murmur is found, further testing is
advised.

Ok..... 7 month old female pup dies and this is all the info I
have.............. "We may never know for sure, but it looks like probably
something with her heart. This female just keeled over dead a few days ago.
The owners did some research and apparently there's a genetically based
thing in German shepherds that I'd never heard of, kind of a sudden death
syndrome, that has something to do with heart arythmia's.".............
Does anyone know of this, or have had it happen to one of theirs?
