[ SHOWGSD-L ] Genetic influence

So this breeder tells me about his planned breeding for his beautiful
bitch. He told me about all the old dogs in the pedigree and how many
times there would be Hawkeye in there and that Hawkeye was 4 times
linebred on GV Troll von Richterbach and that would make this pedigree
linebred on Troll 136 times. He said that this dog would have a strong
influence on this pedigree even though there would be those who argued
that it was so far back to really matter. So I thought what a good
subject this might be for all the "students" of pedigree studies and
genetics. Just how much influence does a dog have that is not even
displayed in a five generation pedigree but may be over 100 times going
back several generations more? Barbara
