Well...no.
The folks who wanted a separate breed have a letter from the AKC and all
they needed/wanted was a letter from our boards saying the GSDCA would stand
in their way. So, Morton, I guess the understanding the board had/acted
upon wasn't correct.

The following points have been approved as the basis for establishing
the new breed of White Shepherd or Berger Blanc Suisse here in the
United States.
1. The GSDCA should write a letter stating that they would not protest
the AKC establishing the White Shepherd as a separate breed with the
Foundation
Stock Service program.
1. The GSDCA would not need to change their breed standard in any
way.The color white would remain a disqualification to the GSD breed.
After this letter is submitted the White Shepherd Parent
Club (AWSA), the AKC and the GSDCA (if they so desire) would be
responsible for setting the guidelines in establishing the new breed.
Logistics could be:
1. Name
2. All registry requirements
3. The possibility of the white coated GSD that is three generations
white/white, and if the owner so desires, to be registered with the new
breed.
4. The possibility if there are owners who wish to remain in the GSD
breed with their white coated dogs, it could be permissible for them to
do so.
If at any point, the GSDCA would like to contact me personally.
I would be more than happy to discuss these points with them.

Why will the AKC not allow a separate breed distinction for white German
Shepherds just as it did among the Belgians?
Under the AKC, we have full and separate AKC breeds Belgian Tervuren,
Belgian Sheepdog (Groenendael), and Belgian Malinois, all which to the best
of my knowledge share common foundational stock and of course in other
countries (including Canada) are the same breed.
While the Malinois has a distinctly different coat, the Tervuren and
Belgian Sheepdog primarily differ in coat color -- not unlike white German
Shepherds (more or less, dependent on which member group/whether breeder
chose to abide by the rest of the GSD standard).
Currently AKC allowed Foundation Stock Service "developing breeds" include
Wirehaired Vizslas (divided from AKC breed Vizslas) and Miniature American
Shepherds (divided from AKC breed Australian Shepherds). Laekenois are also
currently AKC FSS.
What is the difference? Has the AKC given any reason for being willing to
do that with those AKC breeds but not with respect to white German
Shepherds? And why does the GSDCA have no say in what the AKC feels like
allowing regarding GSDs? It appears rather arbitrary and by fiat that the
AKC has allowed one thing for other breeds and not for GSDs.
It seems to me that if the AKC wants more money it should do that by routes
allowing for breed divisions and varieties rather than forcibly boxing in
groups within breeds where breeders/competitors/owners have no place to go,
because their dogs are either disqualified or seriously faulted.
Of course this has nothing to do with *whether* various white German
Shepherd/white shepherd groups should leave to become a separate breed or
variety, but I really don't think the AKC should be deciding this vs breed
people (the GSDCA and various white groups) or curtailing and shutting down
various potential alternative solutions.
